carry the sadness of the world
turn it into joy
NOTE: Today Dee had a horse show, and once again I was so impressed by the gentleness of these animals as they carried their young riders that I wanted to do a haiku as a tribute to The Horse. The above rider is friend and former neighbor; her horse is Curly. This photo is not a good one (Em recommended against using it altogether), but it’s the best I have from the few I snapped (plus, I’d rather not publish kids’ faces since I didn’t get permission).
-Related to post haiku (one-a-day)
As I scrolled down the main page of the blog, making sure the post above this one looked OK, it hit me that a good title for the photo in this post could have been “headless horse girl.” 8) (late, tired, silly… )

ybonesy, the look of the Palomino is one of my favorites. Something about the solid color and that little wisp of mane (I almost said bangs). 8)
I’m a little afraid of horses. I have ridden one bareback before but that was in my younger years. I think the fear goes back to having my foot stepped on once when I was helping a friend in Montana groom her horse.
I’m in awe of Dee. Remind me of what kind of horse she has? I think you did a post on it once. She seems fearless and totally comfortable on these large animals.
Has she ever seen any of the Butterfield horse sculptures (LINK). I wondered if she might like them.

ybonesy, Liz and I were just watching the Olympic Equestrian Jumping in Beijing. Was Dee watching it by chance? It was beautiful. I love watching those horses. They seem to be all muscle.
There was some controversy about a drug they were giving them that made their skin so sensitive, they wouldn’t want to touch the rail. Saddens me. I’m not sure how people think they can get away with that — and why they would subject the animals to that. Ah, I guess it’s the world we live in though. 😦
