Sublime ethereal colour in this photo. did you enhance it by Photoshop, QM? “bonechilling peace” I have experienced this on many occasion while living up North. G

Our weather is your weather (Madison).
Lovely tree, I love the contrasting colors. Dark on dark, nice.

“bonechilling peace”
This made me shiver with the cold. (Or maybe it’s the -14 (with wind chill) temps here today.)
Beautiful, QM.

I could really lose myself and find peace in this sky. Haiku sums up so much. The photo is a meditation, as is the poem.

QM, I love this photo shot! I have always had a strange connection to trees. I look at the main trunk in it’s winter nakedness & consider it to be the bones, so “bonechilling peace” was the perfect ending to your haiku, at least for me it was! The small tiny arteries that appear in the photo, for me me, tiny offspring’s that will soon be covered with glorious leaves. Changes of the season….Our cold winter weather will soon be just a memory, so I for one, think you have captured a very special moment indeed. I did not find the photo to be dark at all…just awesome ! D

This tree is so huge. I can’t imagine how big the bottom of the trunk is. Did you by chance hug it? ; – )
The shades of blue as you move down (or up) the shot — amazing. I’m looking out the window now at the sky — I see much lighter colors, pale orange-yellow-periwinkle. I am looking for that inky blue, or even the dense blue, and I don’t see them. Yes, that’s what I see in the quarter-oak sky — more denseness in the air.

Hey, everyone. Thanks. The shot is the real light, has not been altered in Photoshop. I just glanced up the other day right after the sun set. The moon was rising and there was this dark blue glow behind the trees where the quarter moon was rising.
I was so taken with the quality of light, that I stepped out on the deck in my loafers, no coat, hat, or gloves, and shot a couple of shots. The second smaller ones are shaky. I need a monopod or something for these lowlight shots.
But anyway, I appreciate everyone’s comments. It’s a little warmer tonight. We just got back from getting groceries and it was 6 degrees above. But the wind was still howling in the minus zone (-2). It’s 30 degrees warmer than over the weekend!
I love trees and shoot them often. (I do a lot of hugging of them, too!) I’m glad to see there are other treehuggers out there. 8)
I think the quality of light improves with the cold clear air. Something about all those blue ice crystals.

Oh, I’m looking forward to the changing seasons this year. ybonesy and I had a meeting today and were talking about the weather here – whew!
barbara, I heard about a woman who got stranded on the freeway in that Wisconsin/Illinois storm last week. She was stuck in her car for 10 hours! Couldn’t believe it. And they’ve closed the freeways here in the Midwest more this year than I can remember. Cool winter.
diddy, those buds and arteries are pretty cool. I love oaks because they are so benT and gnarly. We don’t have a ton of them here like in the South. But the ones we have are glorious.
Bonechillers, I like any words connected to bones! I’ve got to eat dinner! Back in a while.

The way the color are along the bottom of the page, it almost looks like a cartoon tree, a scooby-doo, dark and creaking ghost in the graveyard tree.
