Marry Me Mandala, for Elizabeth on her birthday, hand-drawn mandala photographed with Canon Powershot & edited with PhotoShop Elements, Golden Valley, Minnesota, January 29th, 2012, photo © 2011-2012 by QuoinMonkey. All rights reserved.
On the day you were born, it's plain to see, the Moon and the Stars aligned with the Sea— a wild heart so caring and free a better Aquarius you could never be! If beauty rises from the love we carry I see no reason why we should not marry let the rest of the world fight over what it all means, I know our love is everything it seems. I want to live with you all the days of my life, through thick and thin, amid hardship and strife, from deaths and births and the long Dark Night spring Joy and Art, and a good snowball fight. Last night when we danced on the studio floor I felt your love swell inside once more. In bearing witness, here for all to see, it's your birthday, Elizabeth, will you marry me?

Ah, so much gratitude for you, Lizzie. I am the happiest woman in the world! Romance is alive and well in this little corner of the world. 😎
Teri, yes, it’s for real. Timing seemed right, so I took a risk. Liz saw it about an hour ago when checking in on her Droid. She said exactly those words…yes, yes, Yes! Thanks for stopping by.

Wow, that is fantastic! Are you planning to teach? I can totally see you there. What great news. Thanks for checking in now and then. I am heading to Wisconsin at the end of next week to have a mini-writing retreat, Natalie Goldberg style, with a few friends from Taos. When we get together, I always think of the writers I have met in Taos and wonder how they are doing. Great to hear from you.

Norm, so great to hear from you. Thank you! It’s so great to hear from friends met through blogging. I appreciate you stopping by tonight! Liz and I were just talking about how different it feels, a next step in the relationship. We’ve been together for some time. It’s amazing to watch relationships change and grow. Looks like you’ve been through some changes, too, on the job front. Hope things are going well.

This is such great news! So happy for both of you! Congratulations! Are the laws looking good in MN for making this happen? I hope that I live long enough to see every state pass laws that will make this a reality for all same sex partners!

EAmelia, thank you! Will you come for the wedding when we have it? You’ve got to get out to Minnesota.
Bo, Roma, oliverowl, diddy, thank you for the support. It’s heartwarming to see how people have responded. Liz and I were talking today about how we feel different. Naming something, taking it to a deeper level, makes a difference. I would not have known that it would have affected me so much.
diddy, Minnesota has gotten more conservative over the last five years or so. The conservative branch of the government is trying to put it to a vote this fall that we change the MN constitution against marriage by anyone except who they think should marry. It reminds me of all the discrimination that has gone on in the past against other groups of people the majority thought were less than and should not get married. Eventually things change but it’s a slow process. I hope it’s in my lifetime. I’ll keep you posted. We are following it closely. And continue, continue, continue. Thanks for the support!

What a wonderful love poem to a wonderful woman from a wonderful woman. Congratulations and best wishes and blessings for a long, happy life together.
And when the world around you wakes up to the beauty of people making lifelong commitments to one another regardless of their sex, gender, or whatever, please let me know. I’d love to be there. It already makes me happy when I see the two of you together.

Bob, you are so sweet. And your words, so kind. I had a lot of time alone at the writing retreat last weekend to think about what it all means. It’s a big step. And after watching Angels in America again, it really drove it home. I spent part of today looking over the legal issues and ways Elizabeth and I can protect ourselves from the 515 rights that we won’t have as a married couple. I want to help change that. I appreciate all the support. Until we meet again.

[…] My favorite of the four desserts Liz purchased was the torched meringue over thin layers of sponge cake, lemon curd and caramel sauce — Bad Hair Day. Liz fell head over heels for Nirvana, the velvety chocolate mousse with the hidden dome of creme brulee on a bottom of milk chocolate hazelnut praline. If Nirvana with Bad Hair doesn’t strike your fancy, there is always Concerto or Red Velvet Cake. Perhaps someday, we’ll have Truffles cater our wedding. […]
