That looks like a huge dragonfly…is it as big as it looks? I remember your dragonfly painting from last year and love that you continue to find them and follow them in your garden. I don’t know if we have any that look like that here, but I will keep my eyes open now. What does the dragonfly represent to you? What does it say to you when you see it?

I saw a dragonfly necklace at Fireroast Mountain Coffee for sale. I thought if I had $64 extra dollars I would have bought it for you.

QM, AMAZING! You take the best photos…is this with your new camera? You can even see the transparent parts of the wings!
You can’t see such detail when they’re in flight. They are truly beautiful. No wonder that the smallest fairies use them for transport.
(Don’t they?) When I was 5 yrs. old that is what I believed.
Thank you for your beautiful photographic gifts! (Like the haiku, as well.)

I am not sure why but dragonflies always remind me of my grandfather’s cabin in Yamasee, where I remember hearing about alligators in the yard and not being about to go outside to play.
I don’t know why that association exists in my mind but it gives me comfort to hold those memories once again and revel in that memories love and comfort.

Teresa, I’m not exactly sure why I’m drawn to dragonflies. I think it’s because of how old they are, how they carry that ancient DNA in their blood. I am amazed at the way they look, too. I can’t stop staring at them. This particular dragonfly rotated its head and looked right at me when I was snapping these photographs. It was strange. Our garden is out of control this year because I have not done much weeding. So much is going wild inside that little microcosm.
At the mystical level, for me, dragonflies are about the dreamtime. They tell me to pay attention to my dreams and to get going on them. They are also about lineage, what is carried on from generation to generation. I guess Dragonfly is all of those things. I also love the word – D-R-A-G-O-N-F-L-Y. Thanks for stopping by.

Teri, what was the dragonfly necklace made of? Did it have stones or minerals? Was it silver? Just curious. I also appreciate you thinking of me at Fireroast.

oliverowl, you are so kind. Thank you! Yes, the photo was taken with the new Droid. I’m still trying to get the hang of it. I kind of miss the functionality of my BlackBerry camera. I had more control with the roller ball and the keyboard. But the quality of the photos on the Droid are almost up to the size of a point and shoot. I’ll keep you posted as I get to know it better. It’s not as easy to snap a photo quickly, like when I did the BlackBerry 365 practice. But I like a lot of the features of the Droid and it’s FAST! Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words. Hope you have a good Fourth of July!

R3, so happy to see you here. I didn’t know about your association to Yamasee with the dragonflies. I remember that cabin well. It seems like it had a dirt yard around it. Did you go fishing with Granddaddy there? I wonder what the memory was that triggered the dragonfly. Thanks for letting me know. Do you still go fishing? I remember you used to ride your bike over to the Susquehanna and come home with a bunch of fish.

This is beautiful, QM. Sorry it took me so long to stop by and have a look.
The dragonflies have been very cooperative this year, allowing me to take a lot of photos of them.

Thanks, Robin. I saw a ton of dragonflies in a park near home where I sometimes sit to eat lunch. I don’t see as many in our yard. I’m always surprised at the park because it’s a big open soccer field and the dragonflies are everywhere. Wonder what it is they like about that environment. Wide open!
