Me: I love my new Spin class.
Mom: Ew, I don’t think I could do that one; I’d throw up.
Me: Yeah, I feel pretty bad for the first 15 minutes, but more my breathing than my stomach.
Mom: But aren’t you really dizzy after all that spinning??
Me: What do you mean? Just your legs are spinning.
Mom: Just your legs??? I thought…don’t you…well, what is Spin class anyway?

This made me laugh!!
And – I wanted to thank-you for your sweet and supportive comment over at Seeded Earth. Would love to know more about this ‘daily writing practice’. Looks like a perfect compliment to my daily photo one!!!

I love your mom. This is such a classic snapshot of the disconnect between generations.

I must admit the first time I heard of it, “spinning class” –I thought the same thing, it must be like the whirling dervishes or the Tibetan Rites. That would make anyone dizzy!

So sweet.
I’m not too sure just my legs would like that kind of spinning though. I’d much prefer a hike to a spin. I should probably follow your good example though — exercise in the winter gets so difficult to fit in. No outside activities for me!

Bo, I’m loving it. More than anything else, I am enjoying (and needing) “the push.” And I like that the classes are structured so that I can fit them into my work day. But on the weekend, especially this time of year, you can’t beat being outdoors!
lil, I remember when I used to go dancing in my early 20s, I could sweat just about the same amount as I do in Spin. I guess I was something of a dervish. 8)
Ah, Sharon, so true. And yet, Mom works out three days a week at a gym, so she’s seen and/or heard references to Spin Class. I think she must have just all along pictured the spinning. I get the feeling that what she’s pictured is akin to those rides at the fair where everyone gets strapped into a straightjacket, standing up, in a wheel-like device, and then the thing just starts spinning. Ugh.

Marcie, thanks for stopping by. I hope you will explore Writing Practice. Here is the link to our Writing Practice [LINK] tab, for more information. Also, you should read this red Ravine interview with Natalie Goldberg [LINK], who writes about the concept in her book Writing Down the Bones.
I think you’ll find it to be a good complement to your daily photo practice. I hope you had a chance to click on the link over on the sidebar, titled BLACKBERRY 365 [LINK]. That’s my blog partner’s photo practice, which I referred to in my comment to you.
And bex, isn’t our nanny so cute!? 8)

ybonesy, I love your Mom! Anytime you write about her, I am drawn in to reading. I have to admit, I had no idea what Spin class was when you first started writing about it in our Writing Practice group. I feel behind the times! Or maybe just behind the exercise times. I walk a lot in my daily life and it feels like enough. Can’t imagine the Spin!
