QM, do they call it the Strawberry Moon because strawberries beome edible during this period? My wild strawberries provide the birds in the ‘hood with some treats, but the berries are small and tend toward sournesss.
It has been close to a hundred degrees everyday for the last week and more on the way. Summer hit before it arrived on the calendar.

Bob, I believe that’s true. Stawberries are usually abundant during the month of June. I wonder why your berries are small and sour. Are they older plants? We only have a few strawberry plants but every year they produce the sweetest, plumpest strawberries. It hit 90 degrees today (with a dew point around 68) and it’s sweltering here in the Twin Cities, too. And I have to say, it’s a little freaky that flowers that usually bloom at the end of July or early August are already in bloom. What’s the hot deal this year?

QM, the strawberries in my yard grow wild in this area and are not the ones grown for their fruit, more an accidental ground cover.
Don’t know the reason for the heat, but with it already in the upper nineties every morning for the last 10 days or so, July and August may be scorchers of the first order.

yesterday we had a lovely rain storm. i am always excited by a nice storm that brings fresh smelling air, water that seems to cleanse the soul. while we got rain, others got hail and wind and damage. I feel bad for the destruction.

Sounds like a wonderful storm, reccos62. I like that clean air smell, too. Nothing like it, is there. I wonder if we can bottle it. The weather has been volatile here the last few weeks, too. Today ranged from rain and thunder in the morning, to wind and pounding rain in the afternoon, sunny and cool this evening with the most amazing sunset. The quality of light, the skies, beautiful. I kind of like the rain. I’ve been in the mood for it.

A long time ago I made some drawings on the theme of “Manitoba Moon” and this reminded me of them. Nice!
