Oh this is priceless. My little boy loves pugs, I must show him. Our dog just has the usual shoe fetish.

Well, shoes can be more expensive than underwear, although two of my bras now have the underwire poking out (thanks to Sony’s chewing them), so I’m not so sure that I wouldn’t prefer a shoe fetish. 8)
Sony also has a tendency to go grab my youngest’s stuffed animals out of her room and come running into the family room just daring us to take the animals away from her.

I had a friend, a Bassett Hound, that suffered from the same fetish. His shrink said he was sexually frustrated. His condition was complicated by his desire to chew his families LEFT shoes (never rights). It ended up causing his humans to walk funny and him to spend a lot of time on the doggie couch in therapy. visit me at http://www.SandySays1.wordpress.com

Oh, ybonesy, I was going to ask if the fetish included bras. From the photographs, apparently, it does! 8) Sony is so cute. I’m glad you posted new photos.

Thanks, Sandy, for the insights. I hope I don’t have to get Sony into doggy therapy; her two stomach obstruction surgeries have been costly enough. Although, one can’t necessarily put a price tag on the health, mental or physical, of a loved one.
QM, yep, bras included, but only ones discarded on the bed or floor. She’s forcing me to become a neatnik. 8)

yb, you shouldn’t be worried at all. This is pretty common. When Ebony was still alive she had an underwear fetish & now our yellow lab, Abbey has a sock fetish. Our vet assured us that they will choose such items as a way of devotion to the more favored owner. For Abbey, it is J’s socks only. She grabs one every morning upon waking up & only drags it with her to the kitchen. Then I feed her. Hey I feel slighted! I am the one most likely to feed her, let her out, & give her treats. Shouldn’t she be grabbing my socks? Now, I’m feeling insecure!
The photos are great. Brant will just love these! He’ll be here tonight! D

Sony doesnt’ have any underwear devotions to any one member of the family. She is indiscriminate with her underwear love. If *any* underpants are left on bathroom or bedroom floors, she will find them, drag them to some spot of sun, and then proceed to lick and/or chew them. She likes socks, too, but those she mostly takes and runs with to try to get a person to chase her.
I hope this doesn’t make you feel more insecure, diddy, knowing that Sony is an equal opportunity underwear snatcher whereas Abbey really likes J’s socks more than yours. 8)

Diddy: Don’t feel insecure. J’s feet are probably sweatier and therefore the socks have a saltier, more interesting taste!
We’ve had dogs with this fetish, too. They also did not discriminate and welcomed laundry day, when I would sort the clothes by color into piles on the floor. I’m pretty sure that they thought I did this just for them, so they could have their pick!
Sony is adorable. I never thought to take a photo of my dogs, caught in the act, because I tried to retrieve whatever they’d latched onto, before they destroyed it!

LOL.
Oh, not taking a photo would have been very smart of me to do, too, breathepeace. In fact, the reason my tan bra now has the underwire poking out is because I kept letting her chew the bra as I tried to get a shot. Of course, she was shaking her head so much that all the photos were blurred. Not to mention, she now thinks it’s not only OK but actually desirable to eat our underwear. 8)

breathepeace, thanks, you are most likely right about the sock choice! I feel better already!
ybonesy, Ebony was the same as Sony, actually, equal opportunity. But mostly my underwear. As unusual as it sounds, it occurs in most dogs.
Labs are famous for eating strange things. Abbey has been a bigger worry to us than Ebony ever was. She has a penchant for eating cat poop. Well, we solved that dilema by installing a cat door to our basement, where we now keep the litter box. The vet said dogs like it because it tastes good (really?) to them & is full of nutrition. But, most recently, she has a desire to chew on our firestarters, that we keep in the house, as they are softer to break apart. We now keep them up & out of her reach. No harm done, but she now has to be crated if we leave the house. In fact in the past she has eaten an entire peach pie, a box of unopened Whoppers, & a box of yellow cake mix…Try cleaning cake mix off your floor. After all the licking, it is like trying to get glue off linoleum. D

Yeah, dogs leave some sort of saliva when they lick, so I can just imagine how gooey your floor was. (Unfortunately, I can imagine that. 8) )
But labs at least have good stomachs, don’t they? I mean, did any of the things she ate result in surgeries? Our big dogs, Otis and Rafael, seem to be pretty indestructible as far as their stomachs are concerned.
Today Sony took off with a used string of dental floss. I think she ate it. I couldn’t find it anywhere even though I chased her through the house trying to get it. I hope this doesn’t result in another stomach problem.

I feel left out. Jessica doesn’t exhibit great love of socks or underwear. She really is a kitchen dog, though – loves to hang out under my feet when i am cooking, just waiting for the drop-offs. She has a fixation on carrots and turnips – you’d think they were foie gras – she climbs up my legs to get bits of this. So, instead of underwear dog, i have vegetarian dog. Is this better? G

yb, though I tried to clean up the yellow cake mix, I finally had to give up after 2 attempts. It was back-breaking. It took J 5 more shots at it to clean it up. Yes, labs & bigger dogs can ingest the most horrible things, that a smaller dog, such as Sony, would not survive. I spoke to my niece tonight, who has several pugs, and she said the one pug has a thing for her t-shirts. No one, but her. She is married & has 3 children.
Two times we had to involve our Vet in Abbey’s situations. Once, when we she ate rotten crab apples, when we lived at the farm & was projectile pooping. Like a squirt gun out the butt. Oh, yeh, I really wanted to load her up in the my car & take her to the Vet. But it all worked out. Then, just not long ago she broke out in hives. Big bumps began to appear all over her head. An emergency call after hours, alerted us to give her a Benadryl & call if the the symptoms did not subside. That worked out, as well. But, be careful what human medicine you give to animals. Tylenol can be ok, but aspirin & motrin can cause serious kidney problems. Been there & done that, with the advice from our Vet. D

I’m pretty open-minded about underwear. I think as long as Sony and you don’t fight over which pair you’ll be wearing/ gnawing that day, all is good. Ask her if she knows what Victoria’s Secret is? I’ve always wanted to know 😉

LOL. Well, it just so happens that the black pair of panties that Sony is gnawing (love that word, btw) in the last picture is a Victoria’s Secret, and so I guess Sony has discovered the secret. Unfortunately, she’s not talking. 8)
diddy, truth is Sony likes my t-shirts, pajamas, and all other clothes, too, although she like Jim’s as well. We always find her sniffing in our discarded jeans. I think it’s that smashed nose of hers.
Ugh, the projectile pooping sounds so gross, although I have to admit it made me chuckle just thinking about it.

G, I wish Sony would limit her snaffuloffaging to the kitchen. Unfortnately, she snaffles in there, too. She’s just out to find whatever she can find—underwear, stray carrot peels, onion skins, dental floss, jeans, rubber bands, pecans, corn cobs, etc.
We have to keep her crated (like Abbey, diddy) when we’re not in the house with her. And I don’t think this is just a puppy stage. I think it’s just how she is.

When I saw this post yesterday morning, the first thing I thought of was that Nikki Giovanni mentioned her dog, Kennedy, quite a bit at the Fitz reading on Thursday night. [See Baldwin & Giovanni — On Truth & Love (LINK).] Then I thought of Mary Oliver’s dog, Percy, and I couldn’t help but wonder what those two famous dogs would be chewing on! Someday you’re going to be a famous artist and writer, ybonesy, and your dog, Sony, will be among the celebrity pets the world writes about!

Hi Simmone, thanks for stopping by. I met a Golden Retriever today who was happily licking underwear at someone else’s house, and I felt instantly better about Sony and her habits.
QM, what kind of dog is Kennedy?

Our dog Chewy is also indiscriminate, she’ll take both our drawers, clean or not, and stash them places for fun later. It’s got to the point where we had to get a tall and sturdy hamper for the dirty ones and we dare not leave the laundry unfolded anywhere in the house, or it’s claimed!

Any dog named Chewy is going to have to grow up to fit its name. Perhaps you should have named her Sleepy. 8)
