WOW, ybonesy, I love this painting. I was just checking in before signing off and saw your work at the top of the page. Magnificent. And it totally made me smile. I showed it to Liz, too, and she had the same reaction — huge smile. I’m right back with flower power and John Lennon – All we are saying is give peace a chance. 8)
Nice work and the second in the series. The spray paint came out wonderfully. Where did the idea come to you to use the spray paint? The texture on the left side is really nice; and the way the pink moves into the orange. I can tell you had fun with this one. It seems to have come right out of your fingertips.

This was a fast one, QM, and it came out whole, from my wild mind to the canvas. The hardest part was painting Barack’s face. It’s really difficult to simulate a painting you’ve already done. The shading, the dryness of the brush, the mix of colors. So, I let go of that. This face needs a bit more work, but I’ll do that touch up as I need breaks in my next painting, which I began in earnest this weekend. (It’s not Barack, but similar political theme, and similar use of spray paint and objects that mask color.)
I’m having a lot of fun. I’ve hit on a little vein here. I have two others in my head after this next one I’m working on.
As for spray paint, it’s just a fun medium to use. I’ve always wanted to learn how to use an airbrush, and I still do. I’m sure it would me the kind of control that I like. But mostly I enjoy the mix of texures and effects you get with a brush (sable or what have you) and a spray.
Heather, I would love to do graffiti and street art, as they are types of art that I value immensely. Did you happen to catch a recent Sunday Morning show with Charles Osgood? They covered a Graffiti Convention in Paris, and there’s one former street artist named JonOne. Here’s the YouTube of the segment. The guy who does it is a bit sarcastic in his tone, but it has some great artists, including JonOne (who’s now making it big in a mainstream gallery and some interesting words of wisdom about what commercialization has done to his fun factor).

p.s., My friend Deborah and I started using the term “Dudra” in place of “Dudette.” I guess we liked how it sounded kind of like “Diedra.”
