I am so obsessed with celebrity that even though I don’t know who this man is—my sisters and niece tell me he is famous—I am posting his photo on the blog. And not only is he famous—he is retired NFL player Jerry Rice, used to play for the San Francisco 49ers—but because he was runner-up in the second season of Dancing with the Stars, losing to Drew Lashea, who I also didn’t know but am told was in a boy band with brother Nick, who used to be married to Jessica Simpson, I am now connected through six degrees of separation to Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys. (I don’t know who he is either, and my niece just reminded me that since they are both of football fame, Tony and I are probably connected through three degrees, not six.)
Hey QM, I was planning to do a post about how we’re stuck in a huge blizzard in Denver and how we’re probably not going to be driving home tomorrow…BUT, I ran out of time and decided to do this silly post.
But being as how we are being silly over here, I guess it’s reflective of the trip. Just hanging out, talking, eating, cooking (my sisters, not me), watching TV (Comcast…lots of channels), pedicures, laughing, goofing off. Good thing we got out yesterday, because today has been an inside day. Only 16 degrees today, and probably way cold tonight.
BTW, my niece was pretty bold to get this photo, dontcha think?

yb, I thought about you while watching the weather tonight! Yikes, lots of snow there. I have relatives in that area.
Jerry Rice… He is an Icon in football history. I am so jealous.
Glad to hear you are having a good time with your family. It does a heart & soul good….D

YB, having grown up in No. Hollywood, we thought that celebrity watching was something to laugh at. There were people who stationed themselves on street corners in Hollywood and Beverly Hills with an umbrella and a card table full of “Maps to the homes of the Stars.” We always wondered if they sold well, and if they were accurate, but of course never cared enough to ask. We had friends who lived on the bus route that drove around pointing out the “Stars'”homes. The oldest son in this family, when he was in his late teens, early twenties, was a Very Handsome Hunk! If he happened to be in their front yard when one of these buses drove by, he would smile and wave. He said it was such fun to watch them all smile and wave back and consult each other and their maps, (I suppose,) trying to figure out who he was. What these “star gazers” didn’t know beforehand, was that the celebrities lived behind huge walls and hedges, and that was all they were going to see. Too bad; how sad.

I don’t know who he is either but he doesn’t look too happy!
yb, if you want to see stars, just come on over to LA. You can go to any Laker Game and get your fill. Even better… they have nachos!

yb, I’m clueless about celebrity these days. Though I did spot writer Louise Erdrich in the Milwaukee airport once. Usually I could walk right by someone and have no idea who they are. Jerry Rice’s face looks familiar though. Must be the Dancing with the Stars connection. I’ll have to ask Liz if she recognizes him from football. She’s a bigger fan than I.
Sounds like you are having a good time with the family there. Are you snowed in this morning? Ah…what’s one more day away from home. It’s Spring break!
We got another dusting of snow last night and it’s 17 degrees this morning. The windows iced over again. However, up in northern Minnesota right near the North Dakota border, they are getting terrible flooding by the Red River. We were watching the news last night and it’s not looking good — heading for 42 feet.
The Red River is famous for that kind of Spring flooding. I think it’s one of the rivers that runs North instead of South. Hey, let us know what’s going on in your neck of the woods today.

BTW, that really is a great photograph. Tell your niece she was brave to capture it. Did she have to ask him? He looks like he’s looking right at her!

Hey,yb, you’re in my neck of the woods and we’re enjoying the same weather! I went to get a movie from the library yesterday, only to learn that they (and most everyone else in town) had closed early. There was a 50 car pile-up on I-25 south of Cheyenne yesterday morning. Please, wait for favorable conditions to start your drive home and in the meantime, continue to enjoy a wonderful visit with your family.

Living in San Diego we get our fair share of celebrity sightings. And, since I happen to be a huge sports fan, I knew who that was immediately! We particularly have a lot of major sports stars living and/or vacationing down here during the year.
Even with the fairly frequent encounters, it was kinda cool to see Geena Davis in Starbucks one morning. Usually celebrities are smaller than you think, but not her – so tall!

I’m glad to read that tpgoddess also knew immediately. I would never have even known he was on Dancing with the Stars. I don’t even watch that program.
But, Jerry Rice was one the best wide receivers ever, if not THE best. I knew I wasn’t the only football lady fan that would know! J probably wouldn’t know from the photo, but he does tolerate my love of the sport. D

About three years ago, Matissta and I went to a performance of the Alvin Ailey Dancers in New York City and Candice Bergen was in the bathroom stall next to mine during intermission.

Ah, some great sightings, and much less pathetic than my own sighting-through-someone-else. 8)
Long drive home, but we made it safe and sound. I’m glad we waited one more day. We got clear roads, lots of snowy banks. Plus, best of all, a great last day with my sisters (movie and pizza).
Thank you, QM, for everything.

QM, meant to tell you that it sounds as though a bunch of young people were at the club and taking photographs of Rice; it wasn’t a case where they were each asking permission. More like a case of one person being bold enough to snap a shot and then a bunch of others followed suit.
breathepeace, Denver got over a foot of snow on Thu, and then Fri although it was cold, and the roads (at least in the morning) covered in snow, the sun was shining brightly. But on Fri, the storm had moved to northeastern NM.
We were trying to remember, how does the saying go, out like a lion, in like a lamb? Whatever it is, Thursday was a lion. I understand there will be another bite of winter weather on Tuesday in the Denver area. How ’bout your area? Do you expect more snow?

diddy and tpgoddess, all my sisters and most of my nieces know their football players. I’m an anomoly in the family when it comes to sports. I always say I got more than my fair share as a kid. But, I have to say, when I watched the Super Bowl this year, I was yelling at the TV the way my family (and so many others) tend to do, so I guess it’s in my blood. 8)

ybonesy, glad you made it home safely! And that you had fun with your family. New storie to write about somewhere down the road. It’s beautiful and clear here this morning. But windy and 23 degrees. A storm is moving into the area the next few days. More snow! Can you believe it.

Isn’t this about the time when you really are ready for winter to end? I know I get that way right about now.
It’s a beautiful morning here. It’s cool outside still but it’s going to warm up. Supposed to get windy though. Ugh.

My way of responding to a celebrity is just to say “hello.” I don’t say “I know who you are,” but, invariably the celebrity knows I know who he or she is. And we leave it at that–recognition without hassle. That’s enough.

Hey, I recognize you, speaking of celebrity sightings! Or do I? I just sent QM a note to ask if you’re who I think you are. Back to blogging or just checking in? How has the hiatus been?
Surely the celebrities appreciate your no-hassles approach over the fall-all-over-oneself approach or even my act-like-I’m-too-cool-for-celebrity-recognitions approach. Just a simple nod or salutation. Nice.

I AM back to blogging… and using my real name even. I have two blogs–a daily haiku site called “hiaku streak” and an essay site called “Signals to Attend,” both on WordPress. No poetry site or gallery yet, but maybe this summer. I hope you can visit sometime.

Awesome. I’ll look you up. You forgot to add your URL, so next time you pop in, please add it. Hey, I like the names of your blogs. “haiku streak” is especially cool. (BTW, it took me a day to remember your pseudonym. Where did that come from?)
