circles on orange, a rusted gate in front of an orange building in Hoi An, Vietnam, taken December 7, 2008, photo © 2008 by ybonesy. All rights reserved.
Eyes rusty around the edges.
Hurts to look out the window.
Craving a vanilla-chocolate swirl TCBY.
Wonder if they have TCBY here.
Teeth jet-lagged, too.
Could use a good brushing.
I think I might have dandruff.
Not very attractive.
Mostly unable to speak in full sentences.
Not registering cohesive thought.
Good thing I am sitting near my gate.
Feel like human origami.
Even now, feet tucked under thighs.
I can’t seem to unfold.
Not interested in talking to a soul.
If one looks at me, I squint.
Hostile-like.
What are your tips, tricks, and remedies for jet lag?
What has worked for you?
What do you suggest I do over the next 24 hours?
(That’s all I can muster.)
signing off now, in search of tcby. 8)

Melatonin works for many people in aid of re-setting your internal clock.
Otherwise; lots of water, small frequent meals, avoid alcohol and caffiene, try and force yourself to a regular schedule but nap if you must.
Be kind to yourself and don’t take on too much.
Looking forward to more of your pictures. Dr Norm out.

Here is my initial recall to this post:
I loved the image this invoked:
“Feel like human origami.
Even now, feet tucked under thighs.
I can’t seem to unfold.”
I like the connection of the picture of the gate and your description of how the jet lag feels especially in these sentences:
“Good thing I am sitting near my gate.”
“Eyes rusty around the edges.”
I like the gate picture and wonder it is the ultimate in recycling because the gate looks like the leftover sheets from a machine stamped circle. I can imagine the circles being made into plates or pots or woks.

ybonesy, how are you feeling today? I don’t have a clue about jet lag as I’ve only made one flight that was ever close to yours to Vietnam and it was to Hawaii. But Norm’s advice seems sound. It seems to me like sleep would help. I do get tired when I travel in planes though and usually take it easy after I get home from extended road trips like the one last July. Travel wears me out.
Hope you are doing better today. I started a post yesterday that’s almost done, but have to take off for a while to run some errands. Will probably get it out later on today sometime. Have a good rest. I bet it was really good to see your family again. 8)
R3, I hadn’t put together the stamped machine circles on that gate. That’s pretty cool. I wonder if that’s what it is.

Thanks for the advice, Dr. Norm, and the recall R3, and the best wishes, QM. I am feeling much better. I almost fell asleep in the bathtub last night right after commenting on the blog. I could not keep my eyes open.
I hit the sack before 8p, and I slept without waking up once until 8a. I could have slept longer but the phone rang and it was for me.
I’m pretty pooped today, kind of thinking about taking a nap. I’m going to hold off, though. I did go work out this morning, and that felt good. Good idea on the water, Norm. I need to drink a lot more than I have.
Hey, stamped circles…yeah, I hadn’t noticed that either, R3.

Ok, confession time for me. I have only flown once in my lifetime (one of my greatest fears). Though it was not a long flight, 2 1/2 hours), I required the assistance of a prescription to Xanax & one mixed drink. Not a great combo! I don’t advocate it! I am facing a possible flight from PA to AZ & am so frightened! We’ll see where that one pans out. I am still in the debate mode.
That rusted gate would have freaked me out. D

I’m with QM too as I haven’t the slightest idea how jet-lag feels, although the advice to “cure” jet-lag is the usual from what I hear from people–good diet, nap if needed, drink lots of water, etc..
I really love the photo. It kind of reminds me of goldfish. You know those cheddar goldfish crackers that you can eat? I forgot the brand company that makes them, but that is what it reminds me of. Great earthy colors though.
I really like the fragmented sentences you’ve written. It’s like a diary poem.
My favorite lines:
“Mostly unable to speak in full sentences.
Not registering cohesive thought.
Good thing I am sitting near my gate.
Feel like human origami.
Even now, feet tucked under thighs.
I can’t seem to unfold.”
I wish I can travel some day so that I can feel what jet-lag is like! 🙂 Have fun on your trip!

diddy, I remember you once saying that you loved to take long trips but only by car. And then, there’s the fact that you worked in the trucking business, right? So it makes sense that you wouldn’t be much fond of flying.
Well, I wish you luck on the trip to AZ, should you have to take it. When the plane gets turbulent or I start to feel any anxiety about long trips, I deep breathe. It’s good to do. Helps me to relax. Plus, I really do start holding my breath a bit, so it’s good to keep the oxygen flowing in.
A~Lotus, thanks. I do know what goldfish you’re talking about. My girls eat them now and then, not as much as they used to when younger. I think they’re Pepperidge Farms.
And thanks for the recall.

Jet Lag – Day 2: last night I went to bed at about midnight. Yesterday was my sister’s surprise birthday party for her 60th (can you believe it!?) and we had so much fun. She really was surprised. The party was at a cellar bar, and at 10 a really good blues band starting playing. We jumped up and danced, me and my two sisters. I really felt great, not very tired at all until a bit later.
Slept in until almost 10a. I never do that. Ever. I could have just kept sleeping. Jim says he’s never seen me sleep so soundly. Drinking a cup of coffee now. I’m pretty tired still.

ybonesy, sounds like a fun party. Your sister is 60? Is that your oldest sibling? Surprise parties are the best. Though I would rather go to one than have one thrown for me. It sounds like you had a lot of fun. So, what’s your update on Day 3 of Jet Lag?

I love the photo. And I love the vision of someone being human origami, though it doesn’t sound like much fun being human origami. Hope you’re recovering, yb.
I’ve never had jet lag, the farthest I’ve flown is only 2 time zones, but I do hate the flying hassle. Add sleep disturbances to all the inner turmoil – ugh!
How many time zones did you cover?

Thanks, Bo. Hmmm…I’ll have to look that up. Saigon is 14 hours ahead of Albuquerque (Moutain time zone).
Let’s see…Saigon is GMT+7 hours. Albuquerque is GMT-7. Oh, that would account for the 14 hours difference.
QM, Day 3 went fine. I didn’t want to get up this morning, and in fact, I went back to sleep when my alarm went off. But it was my carpool day, so Jim got up and turned on the light. Ugh. But once I was out and about, I didn’t feel tired. The only complaint was that my sleep wasn’t as sound as the first two nights. Man, those were some good nights’ sleep.

p.s., Yes, my oldest sister is 60. Can you believe it?! I razz her all the time about it. Poor thing. I even called her on her birthday to wish her a happy birthday, and I acted like I’d forgotten which one this was. Ha!
