YB, You tell’em girl! Sara-barracuda & John should take a long drive on the bridge to nowhere. (with George W. in the back seat.) I guess I should feel neglected because I never got a letter from John, but it saves me the chore of recycling it.
Thanks for the chuckle.
I’ve never donated money to a political campaign, until this year. It wasn’t a lot, but it was an intention toward the country I want to live in. I’ve just about had it with being told how afraid I need to be of this dangerous, dangerous world.
When my nieces and nephews have birthdays, I send them Sacagawea dollar coins, a coin for every year they’ve been alive.
When I saw Clay yesterday, he had just taken his seven coins to the store to buy Battleship. I played Battleship when I was a kid, but it seemed so harmless back then.
In light of all that has gone on the last 7 years, and in light of the rhetoric we’re hearing from the McCain/Palin camp about more war, I could hardly bear to hear him explaining the rules to me–words like “destroying the enemy ships.” This young innocent could be sent to the battlefield in 10 or 11 years. It was heart-breaking.
He’s only seven, and he knows the language. I gave him the money to buy the game. And as if that wasn’t enough, it was purchased at Wal-Mart.
I have to laugh at Bo’s comment (#5). That’d be truly classic, having you to wear the whole regalia to reflect the letter you’ve written.
I’m one of the ones who didn’t get the letter you speak of either, but with the fact that you pointed out the flaws and assumptions in his letter is incredibly unbelievable. I mean, did he (or his campaigners) really understand or READ what their American citizens want and need?? Hello! They definitely need a wake-up call and stick to facts and HEAR what their citizens have to say.
I was briefly watching Charlie Gibson’s interview with Palin one night, and I felt like Palin was dodging the questions and not really answering Gibson’s questions at all. I don’t think I want her to represent women at all. Hillary Clinton would’ve been the better choice.
The whole country seems to be in Palin fever. I had a few reservations about our democratic candidate when everyone was safely ignoring McCain’s bumbling campaign, but now I’m a little worried.
Maybe we *ought* to seize control of the entire federal government.
I’ll take the Peace Corps, and the Postal Regulatory Commission with a side of Domestic Policy Control.
Who wants to take on the Census Bureau? Be careful, they all have clipboards in there.
I was talking to my sis-in-law this evening, we were noting that the nation does seem stretched tight as a drum over this election. So much emotion and passion and heat.
And I’m in there with everyone else. I’ve never been able to watch the elections from the sidelines. I’m that way with local issues, too. I have always been involved and vocal, and although it often creates angst, I find I need an outlet. Lots of talking, with friends, family, Jim, the girls. Myself. The radio. The pug. 8)
Bo and a~lo, maybe I will at least do a drawing of me in full regalia. HA! It remind me of Ann Patchett’s Bel Canto, where the guerrillas take over the presidential palace.
Oh, BTW, Sinclair, I dreamed last night that the news reported how many times McCain’s letter used war-related language—“battle,” “fight,” and other such words—and in my dream I wished I’d included that tidbit myself in the post. My dreams have been so detailed and vivid these days, it’s amazing.
Classic! Thankfully I don’t get those vile letters 🙂
Oh man though, am I surrounded by John’s “friends” in my area!! Too much freaking money here and they are all Republicans pretty much because they ONLY vote their wallets and totally buy into Democrats as tax raisers. I’ve already caught some good natured crap from friends. Ugh! Oh well, I gotta be me and I can take it. Proudly displaying my Obama magnet on my car and my button on my purse.
Yay! I can’t wait to see your drawing of yourself, ym!! That’ll be fun to see!
tpgoddess, good thing we’re living in a country where we can almost always freely say what we believe in. There should be no harm to proudly display your magnet and all. 🙂
I don’t think Democrats are the only “tax raisers” though. Now where did they got that from?? That’s the thing about politics. Sometimes I wonder where they get their information from…
That’s one of the myths—massive tax hikes—that bothers me the most. People whose salaries put them in the top 10% of earners in the U.S. get big income tax refunds each year. It blows me away. And then there’s the piece about the death tax, yet the death tax is only for wealth over $600K. Plus there are ways to avoid the death tax altogether, by putting that wealth into trust. So the idea that Dems are going to put into place massive tax hikes is just not true. There will be increases for the wealthiest, and even then the wealthiest still have ways to protect their wealth.
I think it’s important to bust those myths. It is wrong information that needs to be righted.
tpgoddess, glad you’re bein’ you. I wore my button to the Fair yesterday and felt good.
Speaking of your dream and McCain’s speech, there is a new art show at the Weisman in Minneapolis called, “Hindsight is 20/20.” I hope to see it this week. The artist distilled down all the speeches of presidents, and put the most frequently used words in order from top to bottom. Lincoln’s most commonly used word was “Emancipation.” W.’s has been “Terror.”
Very interesting. No, not surprising. I love the title of the show, btw. Do come back and share your impressions of it.
I think it’s Hear! Hear!, a~lotus, but I’m horrible at colloquialisms and sayings. Sometimes I use them and then wonder if I even know what they mean or where they came from. I just pick them up from others.
LOL. You and me both. I’ll have to check out the You Tube link you included, although last night I decided to go on an elections news black-out for about a week. I do that — obsess, ignore, obsess, ignore…
Sinclair, *very* interesting. Not surprised by Carter’s “Us,” nor W’s “Terror.” Hmmm…we didn’t learn a lot between Ford and now, did we?
PHUCKING BRILLIANT! Standing ovation to you for this! Yes thank you! McCain needs to stop his propoganda.
$3.59 a gallon? That’s cheap! In detroit we just went up to $6.00 a gallon. A special thank you to John McCain for ensuring the continued failure of America.
If McCain’s opponent were Mickey Mouse – Mr. Mouse would have my vote hands down. McCain is a liar, a Bush devotee, and fairly involved in the oil and gas situation – I am glad to know I’m not the only one that doesn’t believe his hype.
I went grocery shopping yesterday, first time in a long time. (Jim normally does it.) I couldn’t believe the cost of rice. And potatoes. It is frightening.
The one that made me chuckle was Nixon’s: “Truly.” Was he trying to tell us that he truly wasn’t involved in Watergate? That we truly were winning in Viet Nam?
Kalliope, thanks for stopping in. I’ve seen your avatar at 94stranger’s place and sybillae’s. Usually I try to click on the blogs of “friends of friends,” but lately I’m barely getting out at all to check out any blogs. I’m going to make time to visit other blogs soon.

This is truly hilarious. It reminds me of every day walking to class, being bombarded by the young college republicans, asking if I have registered to vote. When I tell them yes, they ask if I am supporting John McCain. I just walk away or told them they already asked me. After, I cooly walk over to the Obama table right next to them and sit for an hours work of Barack support.

I went to the Weisman this morning and jotted down several of the presidents’ most frequently used word during their State-of-the Union addresses:
Washington: “Gentleman”
Buchanan: “Slavery”
Lincoln: “Emancipation”
Hoover: “Unemployment”
FDR: “Democratic”
Truman: “Soviet”
Eisenhower: “Nuclear”
Kennedy: “Alliance”
Nixon: “Truly”
Ford: “Barrels”
Carter: “Us”
Reagan: “Deficits”
George H.W. Bush: “Idea”
Clinton: “21st”
W: “Terror”
