When Liz woke up this morning, she mumbled something about Mr. StripeyPants’ birthday.
“What?” I said. “I missed his birthday?” I strolled into the kitchen and checked out the refrigerator door where Liz has the cats’ birthdays posted.
There (in Liz’s neat artist block print) was the following:
Kiev – ‘Kiki Bell’: Jan. 1, 1995
Chaco – ‘Wooley Pokes’: March 22, 1996
Mr. StripeyPants: Nov. 10, 1997
Sure enough, Mr. StripeyPants turned 10 years old last week, while I was visiting my family in Pennsylvania. And guess what November 10th is? The same day Amelia turned 70.
Happy Birthday, Mr. StripeyPants. Here’s to another 10 years, and counting. I didn’t realize until today, you have the same birthday as Mom. I’ll never forget your birthday again.

A belated Birthday greeting from his Nana! He is, indeed, cuter than a bug’s ear with a sweet disposition, to boot! (None of the other felines in the family ever were nice enough to groom or cuddle with their canine cousin, who visits occasionaly!)
I told Serena about the milestone, and she sends licks and purrs, as well!

Happy belated birthday Mr. StripeyPants!
I thought that maybe if cat years were like dog years that Amelia and Mr. StripeyPants would be the same age but alas as I looked it up my excitement dwindled. At 7 human years a cat would be the equivelant to 45 years old. So that would make Mr. StripeyPants about 64.

LB, the first time Liz told me his name, I couldn’t believe she’d name a cat Mr. Stripeypants. But then I met him and it totally fit him. He really is such a cuddly cat. He loves humans.
R3, thanks for the link and birthday wish. Pretty interesting stuff on cat years. Pants is 64. It’s so hard to think of him that way. Yet, when he was sick last month, I could see him age overnight. BTW, it was good to see Harry Potter last week. He seems calmer since the last time I saw him. And happy, too. (Hey, ybonesy, I wonder how old Baby the snake (LINK) is in human years?)
Marylin, thanks for the birthday wishes. You’ve actually met Mr. Pants. How old is Serena? Liz talks about her sometimes. I wonder if she’d get along with Sir Pantsalot?

Thanks, Robin. I can’t look at that first photo of Pants at 3 months old without breaking into a huge smile. Something I noticed is that the way he has his little paws crossed as a baby is also the way he still crosses his paws today. It’s one of his favorite positions.

I must add my congratulations to the mix and agree that he is a mighty handsome dude, and I’d have to pet him, even knowing he’d make me sneeze!
And then I have to ask, did that orange rag rug come from Ikea? I have the same rug in my kitchen, and a blue/green version in the bath. They are both nearly shot, and I’ve been looking in vain for replacements for years.

ritergal, that says a lot…that you’d still pet the Pantster, even given your allergies! And funny that you should mention that rag rug. I was paranoid about posting these photos because the rug is so shot. We keep it by the door, mostly to wipe the feet on, at this point. I think I might have gotten it at Target or something quite a while ago. I guess your search for a place to buy a new one will continue!

Happy Birthday Big Boy…so glad you were feeling much better on you’re big day. Mavis (your twin it would appear) sends a loud meow and a wink you’re way. (She’s a bit cheeky at times).
QM, I celebrate cat birthdays with the whole rotten group as well. I serve catnip and they get as rowdy as a Rock Band in a nice Hotel. It’s quite hilarious…all that drooling.

When I moved to Cody, in 2000, I needed a small companion. so I went to th local Humane Society to rescue a cat that had been abandoned. Poor little things, in their cages. I walked up and down the line, looking them all over. The cat I had to leave in CA, (not really mine, but a nephew’s pet that had been given to me to keep, as he had moved to a place that wouldn’t allow pets,) was a stuck-up Persian, who was very condescending. Serena, each time I passed her, reached out to me, and she seemed to be pleading with me to pick her…of course I did. I was told she was “about two.” So, that makes her about 7. She is a real sweetheart. I think she would like Stripey, after all, she has learned to tolerate a rude Chihuahua, who barks at her in Spanish!!

Oops, now everyone knows how bad I am at math…Serena is “about 9, not 7.” The Chihuahua, Chunky Monkey, doesn’t live here, he is our next door neighbor, along with Rocky, a mix of German Shepard and ??. He’s an old softy…only barks at people he knows…doesn’t bark at Serena.

What a darling boy! I love the name, too. One of my girls has polka-dot pants, which I incorporated into her full name, which I use only on dire occasions, or when introducing her formally.

He was a Christmas gift 10 yrs. ago. At first, I thought, Oh no, not another animal (already had 2 cats & a dog). But as soon as I started petting him I realized how special he was, & what a great addition to the family he was. He sends his appreciation via lots of licks on your head to all!

Thanks for all your birthday wishes for Mr. StripeyPants. I read them to him tonight. He rolled over a few times and started licking my hair. He is quite the happy cat.
tiv, I like the names of your cats. They sound kind of peaceful. I think the hardest part of having a pets is naming them.
I kind of like polka-dot pants, too. And Serena is a contemporary of Mr. Pants. I bet they would get along. The relaxing of the forepaws, I never thought of it that way, as relaxing. And, Mom, I wish we were all as agile as Pants. I’m getting less and less so each year!
