A few days ago, we did a post on Everyday Art. A lot’s happened since then. I added the tag to my Flickr account and ybonesy set up a Flickr account with her drawings and photographs. She was going to add a Flickr group called Everyday Art but, alas, someone beat her to it. So we both joined AgentOdd’s group Everyday Art as the 3rd and 4th members.
This is my first post in our Everyday Art category on red Ravine. There is so much going on around us in the everyday world at our feet. You don’t have to go far from home. Just be open to another way of seeing.
There’s a book called Ways of Seeing by John Berger. If you haven’t read it, it’s thin, short, sweet, and chock full of insight into the way we look at our world. The visual has a big impact. Writing is a visual medium, just like art.
If you want to see more of our images, photographs, and art, click on our Flickr accounts under QuoinMonkey and ybonesy. And check out our Flickr Contacts. There is a whole community of artists, photographers, graphic designers, and endless creatives from every country on the planet. Whole worlds open up.

I can just picture the greenery around Lake Calhoun — and Harriett, too. When I visit “home” driving the lakes is something I always do, given time. Also river road: your reflections have given me mine.
Thanks for the art, and the mnemonic!

Thanks, Ombudsben. I love to drive the lakes on my motorcycle, something that I haven’t done much this year yet. Maybe I’ll get out for a drive soon. Calhoun especially has all those ley lines (link) that really make me wake up. Drop us a line here when you are back in town!

The one tree on the left side of the photo is haunting. It’s all gnarly and I love how it’s shrunken down in the reflection.

Yeah, you know what’s amazing about photography is that you compose the shot the best you can, accounting for light and contrast – but you really don’t know what you have until you view it. I knew through the viewfinder that I had a pretty good angle on the trees. But I didn’t know exactly how the close-up details would play out. Thanks!

Cool photo QM!
I like the idea of everyday art. Obviously y’all were on to something bigger, since you had the idea of starting an Everyday Art group, and then there it was, already to go for ya.
The other thing Everyday Art makes me think of is ‘art every day’ which is the essence of writing practice.
A creative act a day keeps the soul-stealers away.

skywire, I like how you phrase that, art every day as practice – any kind of practice. It *does* keep the soul alive and kickin’ and the juices flowing. It’s so good to see you back!
