- My 15-minute practice on Place; that topic post is due today
- Walk through the house next door and sit in each room; we close on it today, and tomorrow it will belong to someone else
- Draw the hummingbird that’s been buzzing around in my head
- Go for a walk on the ditch behind my house just so my hair will get even curlier from the humidity
- Write with a friend of mine; I’m tired of not having time for friends and writing
- Volunteer to help out at playday for Dee’s class

Scratch making my bed. Why’d I put that on my list?
LikeLike
I was wondering the same thing. 8) Although, I do make the bed every morning – only because if I don’t, the 3 cats create a furred frenzy on the pillow cases. They are shedding like mad right now! Good list. I’m fond of #7.

I wanted to write something else about place. The place where I am currently at. Things are happening quickly in Venezuela. Kind of scary, but at the same time perplexing and interesting.

Maybe take a 10-minute break and write it in a practice. Or do teachers get breaks during the day?

My practice turned into a rant that I don’t want to pursue.

Practice brings up all kinds of hard things. It’s wild mind. Luckily, we don’t have to stay there. We can visit those wild places and come back. It helps to have people to do writing practice with. Maybe there are some there that might want to write with you. All of us can help hold each other up.

A good technique when that happens is the ol’ “What I really want to say is…”

The five things I’ve been doing today because I threw caution to the wind andstole the time:
1. Took my coffee, my dachshund, and my laptop outside at 6:30 this morning and hung out on the deck. (Number of coffee refills: 3)
2. Created a blog for a friend who will never keep up with it because she insists she will.
3. Decided against officially startingthe day at 10 am with a shower: stayed on deck with dog and laptop.
4. Chose to write instead of grade papers.
5. Decided against officially starting the day at noon: remained in jammies, on deck, with laptop and doxie. Put other doggies in dog run.
Bonus Thing:
Currently considering not officially starting the day. May remain in jammies until tomorrow morning!

I love, love, LOVE the drawing. I find if I meditate, short days are somehow a little longer.

Thanks, Barbara! Good point on the meditation. (I remember some times 30 minutes sitting felt like an hour–but that’s not what you meant, is it?)

Good time-saving device, Shawn–never change out of pajamas such that you’re dressed for bed when nighttime rolls around.

Shawn, you might have the perfect life. Do your jammies have clouds or stars on them? 8)

Right now, Tania and I decided to start finishing our condo (despite the crazy uncertainties circling Venezuela and my job). It is taking up a lot of my free time that I used to do my own things after school. Tania took the car to her work, so I did as much condo errands by bicycle as I could.
I first rode to a locksmith to get copies of the front door key made so our tile guy could go in and out.
Then I rode to the condo, parked my bike inside (a titanium frame that would cost me about $2.5K to replace, not counting wheels and components) so I could walk to a store that I scouted out and didn’t seem to have secure bike parking. I went into the store to see if they had any kitchen sinks. No, but they had faucets. I asked the price of a nice looking faucet. The woman responded with a price of over Bs. 2M (that’s over $500!). “JEEZ-O-PETES!”, was my response in English. I didn’t know faucets cost that much! (Note: This morning I am looking at some Kohler faucets online and some cost over $1000 (the same price of a plane ticket from El Paso to Scotland…but that’s another story)! The average price seems to be in the $500 range.)
After my sticker shock, I walked back to the condo to retrieve the bike. I sat there for awhile trying to visualize the finished place. I also took the time to enjoy my view of the Caribbean a little bit. After a few minutes, I took the bike downstairs and rode to my favorite coffee house, where I sat outside to have a cappuccino Italiano and a large brownie while watching the traffic go by. This is when I always want time to slow down then, because I really like the cappuccinos and brownies from that place.

Sounds heavenly. It’s strange living abroad, isn’t it? When I lived in Spain, time was totally different. I felt like it was so slow. Like I was on a perpetual vacation, which, if you’re on a regular vacation, time flies. You want more. But when you don’t know when your vacation is going to end, and your life goes into a limbo place, then you slow down in time. It seems endless, almost too much so.
But you’re not on vacation. You’ve put down roots, esp with the purchase of your condo. So perhaps time is speeding up for you.

Sorry, but I gave in to adulthood and changed before cooking dinner. 😦
(I know, I am such a wimp.)
I do have a life that’s awfully close to perfect QM.
And now that we’ve gotten to know one another, I am not afraid to admit yesterday’s PJs were Sponge Bob Square Pants themed.

Shawn: Sponge Bob Square Pants, I can picture him now! I’m partial to the starfish, Patrick. 8) I’ll never forget the first time I saw Sponge Bob – I was at Ocean City, Maryland with my family and my niece was watching him on TV in the cabin. And, well, when one person watches TV in a cabin that small, everybody watches it! That was the first time I saw Patrick and Sponge Bob.
MM: This sounds like heaven, a beautiful tribute to place. Sounds like slowing down helped your day to turn:
