NOTE TO MARY: When I watched your show every week in the 70’s, I never dreamed I’d someday be living in Minneapolis.
Oh, by the way, I did make it after all!

Additional note to Mary: Are you and Rhoda still friends? Because I really think Rhoda’s the kind of friend you should stick around with for life.

When I first took my wife to visit Minneapolis, where I lived until I was 6 and then again while attending “the U’ in the mid to late 70s, the MTM statue was a must see and photo op.
She said Mary was inspirational for her. I think my Mom liked that.

ombudsben,
Yes, a must see! Kind of cool that Mary inspired her. You know it’s funny, MTM was very inspirational for women back in the 70’s. She was independent and strong and reaching into tons of living rooms in ways that other strong, real life women of the time could not. It’s strange to think of all the professions where there just were no women. Times have changed.
Back then, I didn’t know what the Twin Cities were. Or even that the opening credits to MTM were shot in Minneapolis over by Lake Calhoun. I only knew about Minnesota from General Mills and the cereal boxes I glanced at in the morning on the way to school.
You never know where life will take you. Glad to meet a fellow early Midwesterner. It seems we both are from the Midwest. You lived here when you were small. I moved here as an adult and have now been here many, many years. Roots are roots. And sometimes we are transplanted and develop new roots. But where we come from is always inside us.
Thanks for stopping by!
