This is a cool shot but strangely disorienting. And then I find myself trying to place you and this window in the last post of the skyline shot. What floor are you on? You know, wherever I go, I always stay on the highest floor I can. Just for the view.
The colors of the sky are so amazing. I’m trying to imagine the picture without the crane but I don’t think it would have the same impact. The crane sort of frames the sky, I think. Even the window frame (I’m assuming that’s what it is on the left), because of its straight lines and angles, helps enhance the random beauty of the sky.
Now that I look at the shot more closely, I realize it is disorienting. It almost looks like I’m taking it from below something. I’m on 14th floor.
I wish I had brought my better camera. There are lots of great things to shoot around here. The weather is quite warm in San Jose. Kind of muggy. It feels good. Lots of great color, too.
The crane seems to be central to where I’m staying. There is also a lot of work on a central promenade. Lots of construction in this downtown area. Common theme of downtowns, it seems.
In the Sunday newspaper, there was a long article on cranes and it described the crane as Nevada’s state bird and had a detailed explanation about how already-erected cranes got taller as the building goes up–something my husband has always wanted to know. Something I never thought about.
Hey Franny, good to hear from you! Is Nevada still the fastest growing state in the nation? If so, I guess it makes sense that the crane would be both the state bird and the state machinery ; – ).
Franny, I had never thought of that either. I had to really think about what you were saying in your comment – and now I want to know how the cranes get taller? They have to reconstruct the crane as they build the building? Are there special workers that do that? Is it a specialized job? So many questions, so little time. So good to hear from you on red Ravine. 8)
